South Pasadena History

South Pasadena is a beautiful area that I love to show off to people who have never been in the area before. It has a population of over 25,000 people and is located in Los Angeles County. It’s history is fascinating and contributes to its character.

South Pasadena History – On the Rise

Native Americans originally inhabited South Pasadena as part of the Hahamog-na tribe. The Hahamog-na tribe is a branch of the Tongva Nation that covered most of what is modern day South Pasadena.

Even then, architecture was something that stood out in the area. The tribe lived in thatched, dome-shaped lodges. These lodges stemmed from their heavy use of carved wood decorations throughout their homes.

South Pasadena history has claimed to have some of the oldest and most historic sites in all of the San Gabriel Valley.

The Rancho San Pascual buildings were constructed on the land that is now part of Pasadena, South Pasadena and Altadena.

Pasadena and South Pasadena voted to rename the association, Pasadena in 1875. This was almost 30 years after the Mexican Colonial rule ended in California.

Modern South Pasadena History

According to South Pasadena history, it is considered one of the first suburbs of Los Angeles. It is less than 10 miles away from Downtown LA. It is home to many California native trees that help make South Pasadena stand out with true beauty. It is home to redwood trees, sequoia, sycamore trees, and more.

Pasadena is constructed of Midwestern and Northeastern towns that can be seen in motion pictures and television productions. There was not a large trace of stucco-clad Spanish colonial houses, which helped it represent some of the Midwestern towns.

It is populated with many businesses that have a mom and pop feel. The area is popular for rich architecture, it’s Farmer’s Market, the Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain as well as the Rialto Theater.

South Pasadena’s History Reflected in Television & Movie Appearances

South Pasadena is often described as a place that can describe “anywhere in America.” This isn’t to say that South Pasadena is plain in anyway. It is just the ideal of what an American neighborhood should look like.
